When I switched the site to the new content management system last month, I had to update the address of the RSS feed. Please re-subscribe if you haven’t already so you can catch all the latest reviews and news items.

And we’re back…

Posted by Eric

Well, admittedly the site was only down for about 30 minutes, but it’s now back and (IMHO) better than ever. Other than the swanky new paint job, there are a few new features that I’ve been wanting to set up for a long time. See below for a brief list.

Our New Reviews Editor: Ian LeTourneau

Our New Reviews Editor: Ian LeTourneau

Posted by Eric

Some of you may have noticed the site’s been a little more lively of late. A big reason for that is our new Reviews Editor, Ian LeTourneau (check out his blog). Ian’s been steadily clearing the backlog of reviews from my cobweb-covered inbox and helping me get them out in the open where they belong. Many thanks to Ian and to you, dear readers, for still visiting.

Terrible Twos

Terrible Twos

Posted by Eric

On January 25, PoetryReviews.ca turned two. It seemed appropriate, then, to also turn 2.0 (read: two-point-oh for you non-techies out there). Anyway, this is just a ‘heads up’ that the site’s still alive and that new reviews will be posted shortly… I hope.

As for the rest of you: Check out the new design, and let me know if you find any bugs crawling around in here. Feedback is always welcome and I’m looking forward to year three.

Keep PoetryReviews.ca Alive

Keep PoetryReviews.ca Alive

Posted by Eric

Ok, it’s been almost a month since the last review, and that’s way too long. It’s certainly not for a lack of reviews to post or books to review: I’ve got about 20 reviews that need positing and at least 80 books that could be sent out for review. The problem is time. I’m a one-person operation, and my business and family take precedence over this site. Having said that, I don’t just want to let PoetryReviews.ca fade away into nothing. It’s become an excellent resource and remains the only site dedicated solely to Canadian poetry reviews. So, it’s probably time for me to either give the site up or look for a partner who’d be willing to take on some of the workload. If you’re interested in taking over the site or would like help me revive PoetryReviews.ca, email me [ebarstad{at}gmail{dot}com] so we can discuss some of the possible options.

Busy, busy, busy — and in need of reviewers

Posted by Eric

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. New reviews from Jason Rotstein, Maria Scala, Rob Taylor, and Shane Neilson will be posted shortly. In the mean time, I have 80+ books, chapbooks, and audio books sitting on my shelf waiting to be reviewed. If you’re interested in reviewing for the site and live in Canada, send a sample of your writing and a brief bio to ebarstad [at] gmail [dot] com.

Three Questions to End 2006

Posted by Eric

My “vacation” starts in one day, so there won’t be much activity until the new year. But I thought I’d leave you with a few questions inspired by a recent interview. <!—more—>

1.) What was the best book (any genre) you read this past year? (You don’t have to say why, but you can if you want.)

2.) Best poetry book cover of 2006? (I’m going with Inventory by Dionne Brand.)

3.) As part of an interview, Zachary Houle asked me, “What Canadian poetry book released in 2006 would you say is a really good entry point for people who haven’t picked up a book of poetry since, say, high school?” What do you think?

Leave a comment and let me know.

Have a safe holiday and a great new year. See you in 2007.

PoetryReviews.ca Joins the 9rules Network!

Posted by Eric

PoetryReviews.ca has been accepted into the 9rules Network, which is

a community of the best weblogs in the world on a variety of topics. We started 9rules to give passionate writers more exposure and to help readers find great blogs on their favorite subjects. It’s difficult to find sites worth returning to, so 9rules brings together the very best of the independent web all under one roof.

But what does this mean for the site? Most importantly, it will give more (international) exposure to our reviews, reviewers, and the books we review. There’s also a cool logo at the bottom of the page. Click on it to discover some great new sites.

New Forums

Posted by Eric

Based on Alex’s recent comment, I thought it would be a good idea to set up a forum/bulletin board on the site where writers/readers can post upcoming readings and releases and share recommended readings with other users of the site.

The forums are hot out of the pan, so let me know if you experience any problems while using them. Also, if you have suggestions for forum categories, let me know by leaving a comment on this post.

Self-promote to your heart’s content!
